‘North of North,’ and 8 More Shows to Watch on TV This Week

Lots of laughs.

The medical staffers from a fictional hospital in Oregon are back for a third season of the mockumentary series “St. Denis Medical.” An office romance is brewing, people are fighting for leadership positions in the hospital, and one doctor is on medical leave while recovering from surgery. Damon Wayans is set to guest star as a doctor, and Ariana Madix is reprising her role as a cardiac surgeon, Dr. Brooke Emerson. Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Also back is Pryce Cahill (Owen Wilson), an ex-pro golfer who, in “Stick,” tries to help the career of his protégé Santi (Peter Dager). In the upcoming second season, the story will follow Pryce as he starts to believe that he might still have a future in the sport himself. Rhea Seehorn joins the cast. The first two episodes will air together, with subsequent ones releasing weekly. Begins streaming Wednesday on Apple TV.

“North of North,” the first release from Netflix Canada, about a small Arctic community, is back for a second season. The sassy main character, Siaja (Anna Lambe), wants to expand her horizons and prove her worth. There promises to be speed dating, a water crisis and a major storm. All of the season’s eight episodes will drop at the same time. Begins streaming Thursday on Netflix.

Nothing seems more relatable these days than the increased cost of living. In the new series “It Gets Worse,” three friends try to find humor in stressful financial situations. Ethan (Leo Reich), Sam (Olive Gray) and Abi (Emily Fairn), who met in college and are now in their mid-20s, are facing eviction from their apartment after a rent hike. Andrew Scott and Lena Dunham are set to make appearances. Begins streaming Friday on Paramount+.

The world of spies and divorce lawyers.

The women from an all-female law firm are back with their Birkins in tow for the second season of “All’s Fair” as they try to keep their practice afloat. In a red carpet interview, Kim Kardashian, who plays Allura Grant, noted that they are going to lean in to “camp” during the season, saying that when they were filming Season 1, they didn’t think of the show as a comedy — but that’s how fans received it. Three episodes drop together, with the subsequent five airing weekly. Begins streaming Wednesday on Hulu.

Helen (Keira Knightley) is back to managing her double life in Season 2 of “Black Doves.” As she continues to be a spy while also the loyal wife to Wallace (Andrew Buchan), the incoming prime minister of England, Helen has to walk on a razor’s edge all of the time. The season’s six episodes drop together. Begins streaming Thursday on Netflix.

A biography series and a documentary.

Muhammad Ali is often thought of as the most talented boxer of all time. In a new sports biography series, titled “The Greatest,” Jaalen Best stars as Ali. The show chronicles his early life as Cassius Clay in Louisville, Ky., his 1960 Olympic medal win and his tumultuous political history. Omari Hardwick, Dana Gourrier and Giovanni Ribisi also star. The eight episodes of the limited series air at once. Begins streaming Wednesday on Prime Video.

In May 2005, 18-year-old Natalee Holloway was in Aruba on a graduation trip with her friends. When she failed to make her return flight to Alabama, her parents were notified and a search ensued. The investigation found that Holloway was last seen leaving the bar Carlos’n Charlie’s with three young men, Joran van der Sloot and the brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. Her remains were never found, and in 2012, her family had her declared legally dead. In 2023, after van der Sloot was charged with a different murder, he confessed to Holloway’s killing, but because it was part of a plea deal for another crime, it was ruled that it couldn’t be used against him and he was never charged. The new three-part documentary series “Taken: Natalee Holloway” retraces the night of her disappearance and the subsequent search efforts, narrated by her mother, Beth Holloway. Begins streaming Wednesday on Netflix.

Election night coverage.

Fall means a few things: pumpkin-flavored beverages, cozy sweaters and — every two years — elections. The midterms are this year, with key races in Texas, Ohio and Michigan. Newsrooms across the country will be filled with reporters and analysts munching on takeout pizza and sipping soda, and you can follow along at home.

Starting at 5 p.m., NBC will begin coverage with Steve Kornacki, the chief data analyst for NBC News, in front of his board of stats, with a special dedicated Kornacki Cam live stream.

ABC, CBS and CNN will also carry live coverage and analysis, beginning at 8 p.m.
