The president’s niece is warning that his fixation with wigs could be a sign of cognitive decline.
During an appearance on The Dean Obeidallah Show, psychologist Mary Trump spoke about her uncle, President Donald Trump, and how his new hair echoes his dad’s dementia warning signs.
President Trump has been seen with a new hairdo that’s been prompting online ridicule and theories that he’s showing off a new wig.
After Mary Trump took her jabs by comparing him to Hermey, the dentist from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, she noted that her grandfather, the president’s late father Fred Trump, was obsessed with his receding hairline and wigs as his Alzheimer’s set in.
“What’s really interesting about it to me is that my grandfather had a receding hairline from the time he was a teenager,” Mary Trump explained. “He was always very self-conscious about it, but you know he wasn’t bald. He just had a receding hairline. He still had a decent amount of hair when he was in his 80s, but then he got Alzheimer’s, and suddenly he wanted more hair.”
Host Dean Obeidallah pointed out that President Trump has just turned 80 years old and is nearing the same age as his father when his Alzheimer’s set in. Fred Trump’s Alzheimer’s was marked by him getting “a very ill-fitting toupee,” Mary said.
“My family, especially Donald, found this absolutely embarrassing,” she recalled. “My grandfather would dye it, and then he would dye it for his mustache to match.
As Fred Trump suffered from Alzheimer’s, “he would leave the dye on too long, so he would end up with a magenta mustache,” Mary said. “Oh, the horrors. They literally would stop bringing my grandfather out in public, and now here’s Donald, potentially,” with a similarly embarrassing hairpiece.
“I don’t know if it was really a wig or what,” Mary said about President Trump’s hair. “I don’t know if it’s hair in a can or what, but suddenly he’s being all obsessed about his hair, kind of like his dad.”
