Stephen Moore, a former senior economic adviser to Donald Trump, drooled on live television Tuesday while pitching Republican midterm ‘momentum.’
The incident unfolded on Fox Business during a segment with host Larry Kudlow, as Moore argued that Senate Republicans could ride a new legislative package to victory in November.
Senate Republicans left Washington for a five-week August recess, with the midterms roughly 77 days away and the party facing internal divisions over its legislative record.
Kudlow pressed Moore on whether Senate Republicans would redeem themselves upon returning from recess.
“Republicans are on vacation — Senate Republicans. When they come back, will they redeem themselves in your judgment?” Kudlow asked.
“Will we tackle tax fairness and not cause people to pay the Biden inflation tax? Do you think they will have a comeback at the Dallas mid-term convention? What’s your political reading?” Kudlow wondered.
“By the way, a McLaughlin poll shows by 3-to-1 Americans do not think it’s fair to tax people on inflationary gains, so put that in there,” Moore said. “Then you have an anti-fraud provision of the bill, because we know hundreds of billions of dollars is being stolen from these programs, and you have some spending caps.”
“You’ve got a great bill that gives Republicans momentum…” the conservative economist added.
It was at that moment — as Moore argued the package would deliver political results — that drool was seen streaming from his mouth on camera.
Moore, however, seemed not to notice: “…when they go into those November elections. I want them to be on the offensive, not the defensive,” he added.
“Even if they can’t pass it, they can message it,” Kudlow said.
