A bare-bottomed burglar accused of terrorizing a swanky Virginia neighborhood in a month-long crime spree was arrested Monday morning.
Sedrick Walker, 21, was cuffed in Centreville, Virginia, early Monday in connection with a string of attempted break-ins committed by a nude vagrant between March and early April.
The purported thief was caught on several home surveillance cameras stalking around properties in nothing but a pair of shoes and a mask fashioned out of a piece of blue cloth. Fed-up residents begged police to intervene, and a stakeout was set up on April 1, officials told NBC Washington.
Officers with the Fairfax Police Department staked out a home in Centreville near the neighborhood frequented by the naked raider, according to the outlet.
“Although you may not have seen us from 3 o’clock to 6 o’clock in the morning, detectives have been out of their cars, out in the cold, hiding in bushes waiting for this exact moment,” Fairfax Maj. James Curry said.
On Monday, well before sunrise, a detective spied the naked man passing by their stakeout.
When the suspect tried to flee, cops sent a drone into the air and tailed him through the neighborhood, the outlet reported.
The man eventually jumped a fence into the backyard of a nearby home, where he ducked inside and hid. It’s not immediately clear if he lived at the residence or was using a stranger’s abode as a hiding spot.
Detectives refused to let up and, using the drone, pinpointed his location to the home. They quickly obtained a search warrant and arrested Walker inside, the outlet reported.
Investigators said they linked Walker, who has no previous criminal history, to the string of birthday suit burglaries.
Larilyn Andre, a resident of the community Walker allegedly tormented, told WJLAthat she and her neighbors “all erupted into cheers and applause” the moment Walker was carted away.
“I can’t give you enough praise for our police department. Their tenacity, their cleverness,” Andre said.
Walker was charged with multiple counts of burglary, attempted burglary and indecent exposure. He is being held in jail without bond.
