The White House has blocked CNN from traveling with President Donald Trump on Air Force One for a Saturday trip to Knoxville, Tennessee, according to two people familiar with the decision, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share sensitive details.
The decision puts the state of the rotational TV pool, which briefly resumed Friday, in jeopardy.
CNN, along with MS NOW and Politico, was banned from White House grounds last week, but a federal judge temporarily restored access early Thursday.
Early Saturday, Trump again blasted CNN and MS NOW as “FAKE NEWS” in a post on Truth Social, asking why the outlets should have access to the White House. “Almost 100% of ‘TRUMP’ coverage is negative, and has been for years!” he wrote.
The five-network rotational pool — which also includes ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News — resumed coverage of Trump starting Friday morning, days after it halted coverage in response to CNN’s ban.
CBS served as the designated pooler and shot video of Friday’s events with Chinese President Xi Jinping, except for a midday event at the National Archives, where CNN was the designated pooler.
After this article was published, a spokeswoman for CNN confirmed The Washington Post’s reporting. The White House did not respond to a request for comment. However, when the White House sent out its next-day schedule late Friday, it did not list a primary TV pooler for Saturday.
