Taylor Swift is back with more music.
Swift on Wednesday revealed the track list for her “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,” an expanded version of the album she released last October. The singer wrote and produced the original LP, a tight 12-track project, with Max Martin and Shellback, recording it while on her record-smashing Eras Tour.
The new songs are titled: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.”
The singer said she recorded them on a trip to Sweden with Martin and Shellback.
“Really we just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs,” she said in a social media post. “I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made.”
Swifties, who are used to Easter egg hints from the pop star, began speculating about new music after she made a surprise appearance in last week’s Emmy Awards broadcast. Portraying a rookie detective in a “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” spoof segment, Swift delivered a cryptic line that sent fans frantically decoding: “Saccharide, Aries, from the vineyard, north or south.”
Theories began churning earlier this summer, when Swift released “I Knew It, I Knew You,” written for the “Toy Story 5” soundtrack. The single, with its folksy melody and harmonica accompaniment, has received play on country radio and left some fans suspecting that she would make a return to the genre in which her career began, or that she would finally release her Taylor’s Version of her self-titled debut album.
Instead, Swift seems to have more pop songs up her sleeve.
It is a busy period for Swift, who this weekend will break her tie with Beyoncé to become the most decorated artist in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards, returning Sunday on CBS and MTV, with streaming available on Paramount+ for premium subscribers. The tiebreaker, and Swift’s 31st award, is the inaugural Artist Director Honors, which recognizes “groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling,” according to a news release.
