Republican shrugs off $450K-spend on ‘sociopath’ candidate: ‘Gotta do what’s right’

The top-ranking Republican woman in the House of Representatives brushed off concerns that her party will spend $500,000 in an effort to elect a colleague accused of violently abusing his wife and daughter.

Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) dismissed her colleagues’ calls on Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) to resign during a tense interview with Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation” Sunday.

“I support anybody with an R behind their name,” said McClain. “I’m focused on…keeping the House, because we are the only party putting money in your product.”

Miller has been accused by two former partners of abuse, one of them Emily Moreno, daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), who alleges her ex-husband broke their daughter’s collar bone and scalded her with hot water, court records and reports show.

The Ohio Republican denied all claims and earlier this summer released a trove of documents he felt would prove his innocence.

Those documents included transcripts of fights over hypodermic needles, police reports over threats to knock a person’s teeth out and the words “daddy kill you.”

Last week, the National Republican Congressional Committee announced it would spend roughly $450,000 on his campaign, Politico reported.

Republicans who have called on Miller to resign, according to Brennan, include Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL), Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN), Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH), Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Sen. Tim Sheehy.

“The guy is clearly a degenerate sociopath,” Sheehy said in an X post dated Aug. 6. “Max should step aside and seek help.”

These calls prompted Brennan to make an observation and ask a pointed question.

“They also have Rs next to their name,” Brennan said. “As the highest ranking woman in Congress, how do you make…peace with that?”

“I hope the allegations aren’t true,” McClain replied, “but at the end of the day we gotta do what’s right for the American people.”
