Congress torched after ‘useless’ vote to condemn issue that doesn’t exist: ‘Embarrassing’

Congress passed a symbolic resolution on Tuesday to condemn socialism — a move that saw eight Democrats cross the aisle to back the GOP on the measure.

The vote, which has no actual effect on public policy, was swiftly mocked by observers on social media.

“Nothing has ever made me want more socialism than this,” wrote Jim Stewartson of Mind War.

“Voting to condemn an economic system that doesn’t exist in our country, to protect the one which we live under that exploits the working class to benefit the obscenely wealthy,” wrote Melanie D’Arrigo, executive director of Campaign for New York Health. “This was Congress’ priority as 60% of Americans struggle to afford food, housing and healthcare. Embarrassing.”

“Imagine getting a salary for this,” wrote ESPN NFL reporter Stephen Holder.

“So they’re giving up their healthcare and social security when they retire?” wrote Democratic strategist and talk show host Leslie Marshall.

“Back when Anthony Weiner was in the House he introduced a bill to abolish Medicare and told Republicans to vote against it,” wrote political analyst Zaid Jilani. “None of them did. Some socialism is ok.”
