An 80-year-old president with a well-documented habit of dozing off at public events instead spent the early hours of Monday morning blasting AI-generated content across Truth Social.
The Daily Beast reported that President Donald Trump unleashed eight posts during a roughly 50-minute stretch that ran from half past midnight to nearly 1:20 a.m., touching on the Iran war, November’s midterm elections, sanctuary cities and what the outlet described as ramblings about “Western civilization.”
The overnight barrage came hours after Trump waved the green flag at the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix in downtown Washington on Sunday, an IndyCar race he personally ordered up as part of the country’s 250th birthday celebrations. He appeared trackside alongside first lady Melania Trump and executive assistant Natalie Harp.
None of the late-night posts were especially coherent, according to The Beast. Trump did not appear to write any himself, instead sharing material from other accounts.
One image showed an AI-rendered George Washington scowling over a podium.
“WE FOUGHT A REVOLUTION AND WORKED TO GIVE YOU PEOPLE FREEDOM,” read the caption, which then took aim at Democrats: “DON’T SIT BACK AND GIVE IT AWAY TO TERRORISTS POSING AS A POLITICAL PARTY.”
White House aides routinely handle the account. Harp, a former right-wing television host who earns $150,000 a year as Trump’s executive assistant, is among those known to type out posts he dictates.
That dynamic was captured on camera in the 2024 Fox Nation docuseries Art of the Surge, which showed Trump dictating reactions to Kamala Harris’s Democratic National Convention speech directly to Harp as she typed them in real time.
“She’s talking about great San Francisco was before she destroyed it,” Trump told his young aide as she typed. “A lot of talk about childhood, we’ve got to get to the border, inflation and crime.”
Those two lines each went up as their own Truth Social entries, posted just minutes apart on Aug. 22, 2024.
Scavino, the deputy chief of staff, is another aide with credentials to the account, CNN White House correspondent Alayna Treene reported earlier this year. But Treene added that Trump does post personally as well, especially in the middle of the night.
“The president often posts personally on Truth Social — particularly late at night & early in the morning — and he reposts a ton overnight, multiple officials have told me,” Treene wrote on X in February. Posts he writes during the day, she said, are often signed with the initials “DJT.”
