The Department of Justice won’t say if met a deadline to hand over records related to a property owned by the notorious child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, The Guardian reported Saturday.
The Justice department did not confirm whether it met New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez’s July 31 deadline to share information about abuse at Epstein’s Zorro Ranch, according to The Guardian.
Zorro Ranch is mentioned thousands of times in the Epstein files, along with numerous photos of men and young girls who stayed, according to The Guardian.
Epstein survivors reported abuse at the ranch that never reached state or federal authorities, state representatives have said.
More information came to light after a tipster broke into the ranch and handed evidence to New Mexico Democratic lawmakers.
In February, the New Mexico state House unanimously created a Truth Commission to investigate issues at the property and potential official complicity in covering up crimes.
The Guardian noted that no federal search of Zorro Ranch has ever been confirmed to have taken place, unlike with other Epstein properties in Palm Beach, New York and in the Caribbean.
Torrez’s deadline was set for DOJ prosecutors and the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, which led the original Epstein investigation, according to The Guardian.
Torrez sought access to whatever documents they had.
In a July 14 letter to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Torrez said that he would “pursue all available legal remedies without further notice” if the DOJ missed the July 31 deadline to turn over records.
The same week, Torrez said in an interview, “I’m not taking anything off the table. I’m not ruling out a lawsuit.”
