Staten Island mom mowed down in hit-and-run as family sends chilling message to ‘animal’ BMW driver

A Staten Island mom was mowed down in a Father’s Day hit-and-run as her devastated family warned that the cowardly driver would pay for their “senseless” crimes.

Diana Rolon, 60, died after succumbing to her injuries on Thursday — four days after she was fatally struck by a speeding BMW driver in Staten Island around 4 p.m., her family said in a GoFundMe page.

Single mom Rolon – who was marking her first Father’s Day since her dad died – was waiting to cross the street while she attended a local yard sale.

A BMW driver, who had no license plates, was seen zooming on Decker Avenue moments before the collision, which happened near Catherine Street, according to police.

The cowardly driver fled the scene – and Rolon, who had just celebrated her son Michael’s high school graduation, was left fighting for her life in the hospital, where she underwent emergency brain surgery.

“She almost was unrecognizable – that’s due to the speed this animal was going,” a furious relative told PIX11.

Rolon’s devastated family berated the driver.

“Speeding down the street for no reason. Even if he had a reason. Slow down. Life is precious, and you took my sister,” Sylvia Rolon, her sister, said, describing the driver’s actions as “senseless.”

“You’re going to pay. You are going to pay for what you did to my sister,” she said.

Rolon’s niece Emily Feliciano scolded the driver, saying, “You are a coward.”

Tributes were paid to the mom – and her family said she fought with “incredible strength” in the days leading up to her death.

“Diana was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness touched so many lives,” Feliciano posted on the crowdfunding site.

“Her son, Michael, is now facing the heartbreaking loss of his mother while beginning a new chapter of his own life.”

Hours before Rolon’s accident, two New Jersey women — Mariana Elizabeth Valverde Beltran, 58, and Maria Isabel DeLosAngeles Salgado Ayala, 61 — were killed while they were struck by a hit-and-run driver after a World Cup watch party.

The driver, David J. Zapata-Vera, 26, surrendered to the authorities Tuesday and has since been charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, Essex County prosecutors said.
