President Donald Trump’s“awkward fail” during his speech at the Congressional picnic on Tuesday night caught the eye of one political analyst.
Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, spoke at the event, held on the South Lawn of the White House, and intended for Congressional lawmakers and their families to spend time with the president in a relaxed setting. Melania Trump thanked the House for passing the Fostering the Future Act, a bill she championed that makes several changes to foster care policies, before Trump spoke.
It was the moment after Melania introduced Trump that surprised David Pakman, a liberal political analyst and host of “The David Pakman Show.”
Trump appeared to try to kiss Melania on the lips in front of the cameras, and instead landed a peck on her cheek. Pakman also noted in a new reaction video that the awkward embrace, in which the Trumps touched cheeks, seemed to indicate that Melania was avoiding Trump’s lips.
“Whoa!” Pakman exclaims over a clip of the kiss.
He said she appeared stunned by her husband’s “incoherence.”
“She doesn’t like him,” Pakman said. “This is maybe the fakest first family relationship we’ve seen in a long time.”
Speculation about the Trumps’ marriage has swirled since Melania’s impromptu press conference about her relationship with disgraced financier and convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein.
Melania has also been seen swatting away Trump’s hand during public appearances.
