  • The world premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” took place in New York City on Monday.
  • Celebrities attended the premiere, many wearing Prada in honor of the film.
  • Some stars looked better than others, though.

Most movie premieres are filled with fun fashion moments, but a movie about style takes the red-carpet looks to a whole other level.

On Monday, celebrities gathered at Lincoln Center in New York City to celebrate the premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” which hits theaters on May 1. Members of the cast, like Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, walked the red carpet, arriving in high-fashion looks that would make their characters in the film franchise proud.

However, some of the fashion risks stars took for the event didn’t pay off as well.

Read on to see the best and worst outfits celebrities wore to the premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”

Anne Hathaway’s all-red look was glamorous.

Hathaway, who is reprising her starring role as Andy Sachs in the movie, celebrated the sequel in a custom Louis Vuitton gown, matching the red “2” on the film’s posters.

The strapless dress had a corset bodice, and the full skirt hit her mid-calf for an Old Hollywood silhouette. Red pumps made the look even bolder, as did her Bulgari jewelry.

Gayle King’s red look, on the other hand, didn’t work as well.

Like Hathaway, King went for a red look to celebrate the film. Her dress had a sweater-style bodice with a high neckline, while the skirt was layered and flowed to the floor.

The dress was cool, but King overwhelmed the look with a large bow purse and a white-and-black patterned jacket. If she had worn the dress without the bold accessories, it would have made a stronger statement.

Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse both looked chic in suitwear.

Palvin’s Beaufille ensemble consisted of a white blouse tucked asymmetrically into her tasseled skirt and a blue blazer. Her snakeskin pumps tied the elements together with navy detailing.

Sprouse’s black suit was simple, but it looked stylish when paired with a white shirt and no tie.

Sofia Carson rocked a stylish suit, too.

Maison Francesco Scognamiglio designed Carson’s tuxedo.

Her pants were high-waisted and flared slightly, offsetting the fitted jacket and white blouse. Details, including a large white bow tie and a rose brooch on the lapel, elevated the outfit.

Emily Blunt’s Schiaparelli gown had too much going on.

Blunt, who is stepping back into her role as Emily Charlton in the sequel, arrived at the premiere in a gold-and-cream Schiaparelli gown.

The bodice was covered in shiny, feather-like materials, and it had a sweetheart neckline with a round attachment sticking up from the center. Layers of roughly hemmed tulle fabric made up the full skirt, crisscrossing to reveal her nude pumps in the center.

The dress had pretty elements, but the dramatic skirt and unusual neckline overshadowed Blunt. The dress may have worked better if the bodice were simpler.

Nara Smith’s suit wasn’t the best choice for the premiere.

Smith, accompanied by her husband Lucky Blue, celebrated the film in a Prada skirt suit from the brand’s 2011 season.

Both the blazer and pencil skirt were covered in black and gray horizontal stripes. She wore the blazer without a top, and she tied a ribbon at her neck. Black, open-toed heels completed the ensemble.

The look was pretty, but it leaned more toward a professional tone than a red-carpet one. Smith may have been better off saving the outfit for a different event.

Meryl Streep’s coatdress was perfect for the “devil” herself.

Streep famously plays Miranda Priestly, the so-called “devil” in “The Devil Wears Prada” franchise. Her red Givenchy coatdress was a perfect choice for the red carpet, given her role.

The dress had a high neckline that tied like a scarf and flowed to her ankles. Streep paired it with black gloves, black pumps, and black sunglasses, looking effortlessly cool.

Lady Gaga’s black gown was a little too simple.

Lady Gaga arrived at the premiere in a black Saint Laurent dress.

The gown had a strapless, V-neckline, hugging her figure before flowing out in a mermaid skirt. She wore Tiffany & Co. earrings and her hair in a ponytail.

The star looked beautiful, but the look was rather simple, especially for Gaga, who is known for her bold fashion. More eye-catching jewelry or other accessories could have taken the outfit to another level.

Ciara and Russell Wilson both looked stylish in monochromatic ensembles.

Wilson and Ciara had two of the most fun looks for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” red carpet.

Ciara wore a custom denim ensemble from Romeo Hunte. She paired a white blouse with a denim jacket, shorts, and a dramatic trench coat that belted at the waist and flowed behind her like a train. She dressed the look up with her accessories, including black pumps, black sunglasses, and a sparkly choker.

Wilson honored the film with a Prada look, pairing a bomber jacket with trousers, a blouse, and a black tie. Black sunglasses and black shoes tied it all together.

A train took Simone Ashley’s minidress to the next level.

Ashley, who plays Miranda Priestly’s current assistant in the new film, also celebrated the movie with a Prada look.

Her green gown was strapless, and exposed seam detailing gave it structure, as did the pockets on either side of the minidress. A train extended from the back of the gown, hitting the floor and elevating the look.

She accessorized the colorful dress with silver pointed-toe pumps and a silver choker.

Ashley Graham’s look felt mismatched.

Miss Claire Sullivan designed Graham’s black ensemble, which included a bustier top and pinstripe pants.

The details on the top were fun, including lace at the neckline and feathering at the hem, but they clashed with the more professional-leaning pants.

Graham could have leaned into the top’s sexy look and paired it with silky bottoms for a more cohesive outfit.

Texture made Lucy Liu’s dress pop.

Liu chose a semi-sheer, black gown designed by Georges Hobeika for the event.

The gown’s boat neckline gave way to see-through fabric adorned with sparkly black embroidery in a floral pattern. Tassels of florals scooped across the bodice, giving way to netted material around her midriff.

More tassels sat on her waistline, and the floral embroidery continued on the sheer skirt. Liu kept the look monochromatic, pairing the bold dress with black heels and a black clutch.

The intricate embroidery felt fresh and exciting on the red carpet.

B. J. Novak’s suit could have fit better.

Novak wore a pinstripe suit with a blue shirt to the premiere. A red-and-white pocket square added a pop of color to the look.

The outfit was a fine choice, but it didn’t look particularly well-tailored. Likewise, the black against the navy shirt was a bit jarring. A shirt that matched the suit’s color would have improved the ensemble.
