Conservative analyst Jonah Goldberg had no patience for former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s excuses for why Republicans lost the 2026 midterms in a blowout.
Leavitt, appearing on Fox News Tuesday as results were coming in, told a reporter that voters picked Democrats because “they listened to the lying media.”
When the reporter pointed out that it was a referendum on the economy and “they know how much money they have,” Leavitt shot back, “No, they don’t.”
This answer left Goldberg confounded.
“I’m fine with people saying she was a ‘good’ press secretary. Lying and spinning effectively when it’s the job is a kind of merit,” said Goldberg. However, “arguing on your own behalf as your own analysis that Americans have been duped by ‘the media’ into thinking they have less money than they actually do, is just really stupid.”
“And Fox reinvesting in this kind of spin at this point is throwing good money after bad,” Goldberg added.
President Donald Trump’s administration has repeatedly come under fire for downplaying the threat of inflation. At one point last year, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said that people frustrated over egg prices should just raise chickens in their backyard.
