Following several weeks of strong polls nationwide, House Democrats’ campaign arm added six more Republican-held districts to its target list Monday.
The list includes seats in traditionally solid-red districts such as Reps. María Elvira Salazar’s (Florida), Jeff Hurd’s (Colorado) and French Hill’s (Arkansas).
Being added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee target list does not necessarily mean Democratic challengers will receive an influx of money from the DCCC. Instead, the additions are meant to attract party donors to those races. In a statement, the DCCC said the candidates in these races will “receive strategic guidance, staff resources, training, and fundraising support to ensure they are in the best possible position to win in November.”
Republican operatives were quick to note Monday that Democrats have historically not flipped red districts added to the target list this late in an election. In 2024, for example, out of three late-season additions, a Democrat only won one — in an open seat. Republicans also argued that the Democratic Party is running behind on cash this election season.
“National Democrats are stretching their already-limited resources thinner and thinner while vulnerable incumbents are desperate for backup,” said National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Marinella. “Democrats can slap a label on another batch of deep-red districts, but they still don’t have the money or message to sell their radical socialist nominees.”
Still, Democrats remained bullish that “candidates added to our Red to Blue program today are winning over voters with their message of lowering costs — from gas and groceries to health care and housing,” according to the DCCC chair, Rep. Suzan DelBene (Washington).
