Home Depot released its first holiday sweater, complete with tool belt — and it’s already sold out

Ugly Christmas sweaters are one of the most enjoyable — if not quirky — traditions of the holiday season. But what about one that’s actually kind of handy?

In preparation for that special time of year, home improvement mega-chain Home Depot released its very own branded holiday sweater for the first time earlier today — complete with an attached, fully stocked tool belt.

“For the first time ever, The Home Depotis offering a Holiday Sweater, stocked with the right tools to help holiday enthusiasts deck the halls,” the brand said in a statement.

An orange and green holiday sweater featuring the The Home Depot logo, surrounded by wrapped gifts, ornaments, and tools tucked into its pockets.

The bright orange-and-green knit crewneck features a flashy Fair Isle pattern near its shoulders with criss-cross icons of wrenches and screwdrivers dotting the neckline and sleeves, along with more traditional symbols like snowflakes and candy canes.

The sweater’s bottom half is where the real party happens for holiday home improvement enthusiasts (a.k.a., where the pocketed tool belt is attached apron-style).

Owners of the quirky clothing item are equipped to spruce up their home with an included screwdriver, tape measure, pliers, a rechargeable headlamp, Command outdoor light clips and a mechanical pencil — plus a $50 peppermint-scented gift card to pick up additional items from the store that may not be as readily available in Santa’s workshop.

Shoppers looking to snag one of the standout sweaters, which come in unisex sizes XS to XXL and are $29.99 online (an impressive $150 value, according to the brand) will have to be patient or drop it on their wishlistfor jolly ole’ Saint Nick, as the initial drop sold out within hours this morning, even with a limit of one per customer.

Reactions to the warming novelty on social media have been full of holiday spirit.

“What a fantastic holiday gift!” exclaimed one TikTok user ready for home improvement projects and winter cheer. “Who’s going?!”

Another simply posted a picture advertising the drop to Mariah Carey’s Christmas fitting hit, “All I Want for Christmas is You.”

Others were grinches about not being able to buy the limited-edition sweater in time.

Dear @The Home Depot I’m very very sad over here. Not even a minute and the entire thing sold out. #homedepot #sweater #homedepotholiday #viral #presale

“This message is for Home Depot and your holiday sweater that literally sold out in less than a minute,” said one frigid Home Depot customer on TikTok. “I was on at exactly 11 a.m., added it to my cart, was in queue, which said it was going to take about 17 minutes for me to check out. Not even 30 seconds later, every size was sold out. Every single size. What’d you have, like 12 available?”

“Same thing happened to me,” another customer left out in the cold commented with a frown-face emoji.

However, interested buyers should not lose all holiday hope, as they’ll have another chance to get the gift during the sweater’s second drop on October 15, starting at 11 a.m. ET as listed on the brand’s website.
