A slain New York Times tech executive tried to commit suicide twice during a turbulent period in his relationship, according to court records.
Jonathan McKinsey’s future wife Candice Jang told him before a 2010 attempt that “no one would want to be with someone f–ked up and transgender” like him, the documents say.
McKinsey had also tried to take his own life under unclear circumstances months before in 2009, the papers claim.
The couple nevertheless married in 2011 in Harris County, Texas. Both incidents happened as McKinsey was transitioning from female to male. McKinsey formerly went by Dawn Finney.
McKinsey referenced the first attempt in a December 2009 email to Jang, where he appeared to blast his parents and said he ended up in a mental hospital.
The email was in a declaration submitted by a psychiatrist who backed Jang. “Who were the f–king a–hole parents that wouldn’t call their daughter who just wanted space who also by the way attempted suicide and ended up in a mental hospital just two months before? Right. Mom and Dad,” McKinsey wrote, according to the court documents.
Three months later, in February 2010, McKinsey alleged Jang began viciously fighting with him in the middle of the night and would not let him sleep, he wrote in his restraining order against her.
During one of these fights, McKinsey said, Jang told him he should kill himself “because no one would want to be with someone as ‘f–ked up and transgender’ like” him.
He says he tried to commit suicide following the comment “as a direct result of Candice’s abuse,” but called 911 before he blacked out and survived.
Both Jang and McKinsey allege the other committed verbal or physical abuse in their relationship throughout their custody and bitter divorce battles.
Jang called the police on McKinsey after he allegedly hit their six-year-old son in the face with an open hand last year. He was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse by Alameda prosecutors.
He pleaded not guilty to both crimes and was released from jail on the condition that he take parenting classes.

The couple was disputing custody of their three kids when McKinsey’s in-laws, both 77, allegedly ambushed McKinsey at a park and shot him to death. Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, Jang’s parents, have been charged with murder.
McKinsey had prior disputes with both of Jang’s parents, including an incident where Chen called him a “disgusting queer” and a “pervert” during a falling out over one of his children’s clothing choices.
One of McKinsey’s family memberstold The Post on Tuesday they believed her parents would have attacked McKinsey so their daughter could have sole custody of their kids.
