Republicans are gearing up to vote Tuesday on a major bill that experts warn could “turbocharge” the “bottomless crypto corruption” President Donald Trump’s family has been accused of engaging in, Zeteo reported Tuesday.
The U.S. Senate is poised to vote Tuesday on the Clarity Act, a bill designed to regulate the growing cryptocurrency sector — an industry that has made the Trump family more than $1.4 billion in 2025 alone, a windfall critics have argued amounts to “corruption.” The CLARITY Act’s critics, however, say the bill would fail to actually restrain the Trump family’s crypto dealings, and in some cases, could actively enable them.
“[The CLARITY Act] would fail to rein in the most obvious examples of Trump’s self-enrichment from crypto ventures, and, with passage, could supercharge it,” warned Mark Hays, the associate director for Cryptocurrency and Financial Technology, speaking with Zeteo.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) also called out what she argued were the bill’s shortcomings on the Senate floor Monday night, calling the included ethics provisions a “fig leaf” that “would do nothing that would stop [Trump] from making his next $1.4 billion in crypto profits.”
“The law could never be enforced against Donald Trump because it gives his political appointees the power to turn off enforcement of all of these ethics provisions,” Warren said.
As flagged by Zeteo, Warren’s staff penned a memo further condemning the Clarity Act and its apparent inadequacies.
“Even afterwards, Trump could still make unlimited profits from his $TRUMP memecoin since it has already been issued, plus his other current crypto businesses if he implements minor workarounds,” the memo reads.
The wealth of Trump’s family has “soared” since Trump retook the White House last year, with Trump’s own net worth climbing to $7.3 billion from $3.9 billion in 2024. However, the White House has scoffed at accusations that Trump and his family have used the White House to enrich themselves.
“I think everybody, the American public, believe it’s absurd for anyone to insinuate that this president is profiting off of the presidency,” former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in May.
