A former Marine fighter pilot was appalled by a report from Bari Weiss’ “60 Minutes” on Sunday that included sensitive information about how the military conducted a recent rescue mission.
“60 Minutes” ran a report about the rescue of an American fighter pilot who says he evaded Iranian forces while he climbed more than 7,000-foot ridgeline to safety. Some details in the report alarmed Amy McGrath, a former Marine pilot and political candidate in Kentucky, who reacted to it on CNN’s “The Arena” with Kasie Hunt.
“My criticism is not of them. I want to be clear. It’s of the leadership surrounding this and putting this on TV. My biggest problem is the operational security surrounding a mission like this,” McGrath said. “Why are we telling Iran how we did this?”
McGrath noted that the report basically walked Iran through how the U.S. conducted its rescue mission. It included details such as response times, the number of aircraft involved, and force compositions, she said.
“Those are capabilities that we might need again,” McGrath said. “In layman’s terms, if we lose another aircraft tomorrow, we’ve just given the enemy a better idea of what we’re going to do to get that crew back, and that makes the next rescue harder. In my mind, they shouldn’t have done it.”
