A ‘wild’ indoor cat leapt onto a food delivery driver, and his shocked owner shared the door-cam footage, which has left internet viewers in stitches.
Magnus, a 2-year-old rescue cat with an adventurous streak, made a bold escape from his catio before making a grand entrance on top of the unsuspecting driver. She shared the hysterical scene on Instagram, which has since garnered more than 514,000 likes and almost 4 million views.
“I was ordering food delivery, and when I opened the door, I was shocked to find my indoor-only cat on top of the poor delivery man,” the owner (@doublemeowski) told Newsweek. “He must’ve escaped via the catio that I have set up, as when I went to inspect, I saw a gap in the fencing that he had somehow made.”
The now-viral video shows Magnus perched precariously on the driver’s back, as the startled man bends over, trying to keep the feline safe. Despite the commotion, the delivery driver miraculously manages to knock on the door for help, all while balancing the cat.
“I apologized profusely to the delivery man and was super-embarrassed,” the owner added. “My cat was still sitting on top of him while we spoke. I hurriedly grabbed Magnus and made sure to give the driver a generous tip.”
Magnus, who is set to turn 3 in October, was originally found by a river and brought to a shelter before his current owner adopted him. His mischievous personality, however, hasn’t dulled one bit. “He has always been a bit wild. He even once ate a SIM card!” she said. “He likes to dig through the bin like a rat, so we sometimes call him Rat Boy.”
Known for his boundless energy and love of food, Magnus has developed some unique behaviors to grab his owner’s attention. “Recently, he’s started standing on his hind legs and slapping my thighs with both paws when he’s upset about his food bowl being empty,” the owner said.
“He also likes to jump on top of me out of nowhere when he wants attention, nearly giving me a heart attack! I’m sure that’s why he decided to jump on the delivery man.”
For cat owners wondering how to stop their feline friends from jumping on them, experts suggest redirecting the cat’s energy with toys and providing interactive playtime.
Cats often leap for attention or due to boredom, so it is essential to engage them with mental and physical activities to prevent these unexpected ambushes.
The owner has since taken steps to secure Magnus’ escape route. “Secure your catios if you have escape artists!” she wrote in the video’s caption. Ensuring that your catio is escape-proof can involve reinforcing any gaps and adding secure locks, so even the most determined cats like Magnus can’t slip away.
Meanwhile, viewers couldn’t get enough of Magnus’ antics, especially his unsuspecting perch on the delivery driver’s back. Commenters were quick to share their amusement and admiration for the driver’s calm reaction.
“Don’t listen to them. The cat is driving this man,” one user joked.
“Guy is very much a cat person. The way he fully accepted it—he would now be a perch,” another commented.
“Good day, delivery for you. Here’s your package and cat!” added another amused viewer.
