Democratic strategist Antjuan Seawright confronted right-wing activist Terry Schilling on CNN after Schilling attacked Democratic candidate James Talarico, calling him unelectable against scandal-plagued Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Schilling dismissed the idea that Texas could turn blue, citing conservative demographics and Christian values, and then used gender-coded language to mock Talarico’s vegan diet and Austin teaching background.
Host Audie Cornish noted Schilling’s loaded rhetoric describing Talarico as a “leftist teacher.”
Seawright directly rebutted Schilling, arguing, “Conservative does not mean Christian” and “GOP does not mean ‘God’s only party.’”
Seawright then shifted focus to the matchup itself, highlighting Paxton’s indictment and election denial involvement alongside his impeachment. He argued Democrats are well-positioned given Republican failures in Washington and voter dissatisfaction trickling down from federal leadership, creating a “fertile environment” for Democrats in Texas.
