Two people were injured, one critically, after shootings in Prince George’s County on Friday afternoon, police said. The investigation prompted lockdowns at a handful of schools, some of which have since been lifted.
Officers had one person in custody around 3:30 p.m. and recovered a weapon, police said. The shootings occurred in the “northern portion of the county,” including the area of 67th Avenue and Patterson Street in the East Riverdale area, police said.
Just before 4 p.m., police confirmed a second person had been shot. Both shooting victims were taken to a hospital, police said.
Police said there are believed to be no additional suspects.
Multiple schools were placed on lockdown during the afternoon, including Beacon Heights, Berwyn Heights, Greenbelt and Paint Branch elementary schools; the Dora Kennedy French Immersion School; Greenbelt Middle School; and Bladensburg and Eleanor Roosevelt high schools, according to Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Police said they expected to release more information later Friday.
