4 Rap Songs From the 2000s That Are a Must-Add for Your Gym Playlist

A great gym playlist is the same kind of playlist you’d make to blow the speakers out of your car. Weightlifters in particular need power, the kind of aggression that’ll push you to get that last rep in. The last thing you need is to get trapped listening to the gym’s idea of a good playlist.

Thankfully, 2000s hip-hop was chock-full of massive-scale anthems. In the aftermath of the shiny suit era in the late 90s and the rise of the South, every record had to feel dirty, gritty, and have an enormous sense of power. So rather than endlessly scroll through your phone for songs between sets, we’ll give you a great starting point with four classic 2000s rap bangers.

4 Rap Songs From the 2000s That Will Prove To Be Gym Essentials for Your Workout

“Motivation” by T.I.

T.I. had a bevy of different bangers that felt absolutely titanic in the 2000s. But while the rest of the list is for the peak of the exercise, “Motivation” serves as an ideal warm-up at the gym. Hearing the Atlanta legend scoff at haters to “get on ya job” and boast that he’ll never back down from a challenge is exactly what you need to prepare for a hefty workout.

“I ain’t sat down yet, here I stand, a gorilla/Even if I’m all alone or standin’ with four n***as/Tell ’em jump, pimpin’, it don’t get no realer/5’9″ with the soul of a 6’4″ n***a,” T.I. snarls.

“Heat” by 50 Cent

“Heat” lends itself to all of 50 Cent’s most evil, chaotic, antagonistic qualities. The beat sounds like the leader of the G-Unit militia is haunting you through a spooky house, hearing gunshots echo through hallways. The song is all power, forgoing pace entirely to beat you over the head with aggression. At the peak of your workout, its intensity will match the beads of sweat dropping from your forehead.

“We Takin’ Over” by DJ Khaled, Akon, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Birdman, and Lil Wayne

While this is a great posse cut in its own right, a massive part of the draw is all in Lil Wayne’s superstar verse. He rips through a barrage of punchlines in the buildup to the beat drop, adrenaline building up to a beautiful moment of catharsis. When he commands to “feed me rappers or feed me beats“, it’s a powerful moment that will boost you through any intense workout regimen.

“Standing Ovation” by Young Jeezy

An underrated aspect of a good gym playlist is having records with motion. Too slow and you’re sluggish through the gym. But tempo doesn’t always dictate matters. The key is all about motion.

For instance, “Standing Ovation” and Thug Motivation 101 as a whole are much slower than many trap classics. However, in addition to its booming nature, it has a heavy swing that is ideal for any and all weight lifting. If you’re about to meet your personal best, the extra bass is going to put you over the top.
