‘Armed and dangerous’ special forces veteran hiding out in Tennessee woods after shooting wife

A special forces veteran with “extensive” survival training has been on the lam for several days after he allegedly shot his wife at their Tennessee home and fled into the woods, according to authorities.

Craig Berry is wanted on a second-degree attempted murder charge for shooting his wife at his home in Dover around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, according to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office.

Berry, a retired military special forces veteran, dashed into the woods near the residence in camouflage clothing before deputies could nab him, cops said.

His wife, who was not identified, was taken to a medical facility after the domestic altercation, police said. Her condition is not immediately known.

The department added in a statement that the multiagency manhunt for Berry across a heavily wooded stretch of the state may be “a lengthy process” as the vet has “extensive training in survival tactics” and is an “excellent swimmer and diver.”

He is considered “armed and dangerous” and vanished with at least one handgun. He is also believed to have taken extra ammunition, authorities added.

Berry is not believed to have a phone on him or have any other means of communication. Cops have also not yet ruled out that he has received “outside assistance” while on the lam.

He was last spotted near River Trace Road and wore camouflage clothing in a blurry trail camera photo released by the department.

Investigators have received no information indicating Berry is no longer in the area and will conduct a “very detailed search” from River Trace Road to parts of several highways with multiple law enforcement agencies this week.

“We are asking the public to report any activity or suspicious circumstances to 911,” police said in a statement.
