Sen. Darline Graham Nordone (R-SC) has given her runoff opponent more attack fodder after a voter question-and-answer appearance.
The sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who was appointed to his seat after he passed away suddenly, is currently reeling from a debate performance where she appeared out of her depth on a simple national security question.
On Wednesday, she was asked about a massive $500k PAC donation she received from a group aligned with politically toxic AI data centers, and she attempted to slap it away by accusing her questioner of not knowing how PACs work.
In a video clip posted to X by CSPAN, she was asked why she “took that money?”
She first straddled the question by saying data centers need to be accountable to “local control,“ while also asking her questioner if he wanted China to take the lead in AI development.
Pressed on the donation, which her campaign could have refused, she shot back, “Okay, do you know how PAC contributions work?”
Getting an affirmative response, she added, “So I have no control over the PAC money coming in or how it is spent.”
After being pressed more, she informed her questioner, “So we are going to move on to somebody else.”
