A CNN legal expert was floored on Tuesday after the grand jury’s indictment against former FBI Director James Comey was revealed.
Katelyn Polantz, CNN’s crime and justice correspondent, obtained a copy of the indictment against Comey and read it during CNN’s “The Arena” on Tuesday afternoon. The indictment is three pages long and includes two charges: one for allegedly threatening the president and the other for a threat of interstate communications.
It stems from a post Comey made on his Instagram account that included a picture with the numbers “86 47” made from seashells. Conservative pundits have suggested that the post was a veiled threat to eliminate President Donald Trump.
Polantz noted that the indictment itself contains little detail.
“It is short!” Polantz said.
This is not the first time that the Trump Department of Justice has attempted to indict Comey. Last year, Comey was indicted on charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding.
The charges were dismissed without prejudice by a federal judge after former U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan’s appointment was deemed unconstitutional.
