Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) lashed out at her own party on Tuesday, demanding a congressional investigation into Corey Lewandowski, the on-again/off-again Trump adviser who is believed to have effectively run the Department of Homeland Security on behalf of disgraced former Secretary Kristi Noem.
Mace aired her grievances in an open letter published to X from her account, although she appears to be the only signatory despite speaking in plural throughout.
“We urge Oversight Committee Chairman Comer to open an investigation into the conduct of Corey Lewandowski during his time as a Special Government Employee and advisor to the Department of Homeland Security,” said Mace’s post. “We strongly support DHS and the men and women carrying out its critical mission every day. Which is exactly why what Corey Lewandowski allegedly did is so outrageous.”
“According to public reporting corroborated by internal DHS documents, Lewandowski, a Special Government Employee with no prior national security experience, allegedly wielded authority over DHS contracts and sought personal payment from contractors in exchange for protecting those contracts and seeking new ones,” she continued. “Bribery. Extortion. Self-dealing. A slap in the face to every American taxpayer and every dedicated DHS employee.”
“Accountability does not stop at party lines,” Mace concluded.
Lewandowski, who reportedly wielded near absolute power at DHS while he was there, has also long been rumored to be in a romantic affair with Noem despite both being married — an allegation both deny.
Noem herself was fired earlier this year, after Trump grew enraged with her passing the buck for a controversial $200 million taxpayer-funded nationwide ad campaign featuring her face.
