President Donald Trump is expected to hand an award to a group of reporters at the Wall Street Journal for a story that the president later sued them for writing, according to a new report.
Dylan Byers of Punchbowl News reported on Monday that Trump will award the Katherine Graham Award for Courage and Accountability to the group of reporters who broke the “bawdy” Epstein letter story last year. The story was about a drawing that the president allegedly sent to disgraced financier and convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday.
“Drama at this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner: The Wall Street Journal is being awarded the Katharine Graham Award for Courage and Accountability for its reporting on the ‘bawdy’ letter that Trump set Epstein,” Byers posted on X. “Trump, who sued the Journal over this story, is expected to present the reporters with the award.”
The Katherine Graham Award is named after the late publisher of the Washington Post, who defended her paper after it published reports about the Watergate scandal.
Trump later sued the Wall Street Journal for $10 billion over its report on the birthday letter, which the outlet described as “bawdy.”
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is scheduled for April 25.
