As running has exploded in popularity, so has the number of celebrities running the New York City Marathon. Among the 60,000 runners who will cross the start line on Sunday are dozens of actors, reality television stars and famous athletes.
One of the most famous faces in the crowd on Sunday might be Jennifer Connelly, the Academy Award-winning actress from “Labyrinth,” and “A Beautiful Mind,” according to a list released by the organizers. There will also be the reliable representatives from Broadway that often feature in the hometown race. This year, the “Mean Girls” star Erika Henningsen and Jordan Litz, currently starring as Fiyero in “Wicked” in London’s West End, will wind their way toward the finish line.
Following the newfound tradition of alums from the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” reality dating show franchise participating in the five-borough race, Hannah Ann Sluss, Joe Amabile, Matt James, Blake Horstmann, Zac Clark, Greg Grippo and Andrew Spencer will take on the 26.2 miles.
Mr. Amabile notably underwent brain surgery in August to remove a tumor. He posted a video to Instagram on Aug. 20 of his first run post-operation, writing that “if you’re looking for a little inspiration this morning I just ran 3 and half miles only 15 days after my brain surgery.”
Also racing on Sunday are a number of athletes from other sporting fields. Tiki Barber, the former New York Giants running back, and Justin Britt, a one-time Seattle Seahawks player, will represent the National Football League. James Milner will represent England’s Premier League and Darby Allin will show what an All Elite Wrestling athlete can do in a road race.
We’ll be on the lookout for others as the day progresses.
