How Warm Will the New York City Marathon Route Get on Sunday?

Tens of thousands of runners will take to the streets of New York on Sunday, running 26.2 miles through all five boroughs. The National Weather Service is expecting temperatures in the 60s. That may be great news for spectators, but warm temperatures tend to slow runners down.

Here’s the forecast for key spots along the race.

Staten Island

Runners start arriving on Staten Island, where the race begins, before the sun comes up.

The wheelchair racers are the first out of the gate at 8 a.m., followed by the professional women at 8:30 and the professional men at 9:05. For everyone else, the waves start running between 9:10 and 11:30.

Brooklyn

From Bay Ridge to Greenpoint, the runners spend nearly 10 miles winding through Brooklyn.

Queens

The Pulaski Bridge in Long Island City brings the runners into Queens. The Queensboro Bridge, thought by many to be the hardest part of the race, takes them out a few miles later.

Manhattan

Manhattan at last (but not for long). The runners head up First Avenue for Miles 16 through 19.

The Bronx

The final borough. Just over a mile, and then it’s back into Manhattan.

Central Park

The race ends in Central Park. After the wheelchair division, the elite men and women will cross the finish line around 11 a.m.

The finish line officially remains open until 10 p.m. on Sunday.
