Mary Trump says her uncle’s push to police the midterm elections is no longer just talk, and she’s urging voters to treat it as an emergency.
“This is a five alarm fire, and it is indeed the most important election of our lifetimes,” the psychologist and author wrote in her Substack newsletter, The Good in Us, under the headline “SCAM: Donald’s Plan to Rig the Midterms.”
Mary Trump argued that for President Donald Trump, the stakes are as much financial as political. “Donald’s family has made billions through its business and cryptocurrency ventures, while wealthy allies and donors have benefited from an administration that makes decisions based on how much money it can make them and their cronies,” she wrote. “That is why hanging onto power matters so much to him.”
She took aim at Trump’s recent move to declassify what he called “critical intelligence revealing shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure.”
“What we are being told is that Donald knows he cannot win without cheating,” she wrote. “When he claims elections are fraudulent, what he really means is any election that Democrats win.”
Talk of fraud is one thing, she argued, but what the administration is doing now is “far more consequential.” She wrote that it is “using the federal government and the institutions created to protect our civil liberties, including our right to vote, to investigate voters, challenge their eligibility, and attempt to prevent certain ballots from being counted.”
She pointed to a whistleblower’s account of a Department of Homeland Security program to investigate suspected ineligible voters. Under that program, according to the disclosure, staffers with less than two hours of training were told to review 40 people a day. She called it “the operation that should keep every American awake at night.”
She also cited the Justice Department’s lawsuit against California over more than 20,000 voters it flagged as likely noncitizens. In an early review of 200 of those names, Los Angeles County found that 112 registrations had already been canceled or were inactive.
“Clearly, openly, and right in our faces, the Trump regime is making it plain that it will do anything in its power to steal this election from the American people,” she wrote.
Mary Trump saved some of her harshest words for Attorney General Todd Blanche, “a sycophant the likes of which I have never seen before.” She highlighted his Oct. 22 answer when he was asked whether DOJ might try to stop states from certifying results.
“To say that there’s no circumstances that we would ever do that, of course I’m not going to say that,” Blanche said, according to her transcript. He added that he wasn’t “planning my days around the election to be somewhere to not certify.”
“Of course he won’t rule it out,” Mary Trump wrote. “His boss is not the American people. His boss is Donald.”
She closed with a plea to voters ahead of Election Day on Nov. 3.
“I need you to act like your rights depend on it, because they do,” she further wrote. “Please vote.”
