Alaska Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola is rescheduling campaign events after she suffered “minor injuries” in a car crash, her campaign said Sunday.
Peltola and her family were on their way to the Alaska Federation of Natives Annual Banquet when their vehicle was struck by another driver, the campaign said.
“Mary and her family sustained minor injuries but are in good spirits,” Peltola’s campaign manager, Cheryl Bruce, said in a statement.
Peltola was scheduled to kick off her “Alaska Always Tour,” a slate of events to round out the final days of her campaign, with planned stops in Fairbanks and Bethel on Sunday and Monday. The campaign is rescheduling both events.
With the midterm elections just over a week away, Peltola, Alaska’s former at-large representative in the House, is locked in a toss-up race against Sen. Dan Sullivan (R) that could help determine which party controls the Senate next year.
“Mary is disappointed that the accident is delaying the start of her Alaska Always Tour, and she is eager to get back on the campaign trail to speak directly with Alaskans about her plan to take on the rigged system and lower costs for working families,” Bruce said.
