At least 12 people, including six minors, were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University’s stadium in Tallahassee late Saturday, police said.
Eleven of the injured sustained gunshot wounds, the city’s police chief, Lawrence Revell, told a news conference. The twelfth person — a grandmother of one of the victims — injured herself while fleeing the scene, he added.
At least three of the victims were seriously injured, including one in critical condition, Revell said. The others are in stable condition.
Six of the victims are juveniles and the youngest is 11. One victim is believed to be a Florida A&M University student, Revell said.
He said no arrests have been made.
The incident took place shortly before 8 p.m. at the intersection of two streets near Bragg Memorial Stadium, Revell said. The Florida A&M’s football team had played a homecoming game against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff at the stadium earlier that evening.
Preliminary findings indicate that “an altercation occurred” before the shooting, Revell said. Police believe it was an “isolated incident between two or three individuals.’
About two dozen officers had been in the area before the shooting, he said. In a statement on social media, Florida A&M University said the campus “remains safe” but advised people to avoid the area to allow police investigate.
