Meghan Markle’s inner circle reportedly believes her dad Thomas Markle’s child porn probe will help the public “finally understand” why she has distanced herself from him in recent years.
“Now maybe people will finally understand why she has had nothing to do with her father since 2018,” a source close to the Duchess of Sussex told the Sun, who was the first to report on Thomas Sr. being investigated over “hundreds, if not thousands” of child sex abuse images.
The outlet reported Thursday that the patriarch’s son, Thomas Markle Jr., reported him to the police after allegedly discovering “an unbelievable amount of” the lewd materials inside several boxes at his dad’s Philippines home in the city of Cebu, where the two had moved in January 2025.
Authorities are preparing to seize the alleged evidence, which Thomas Jr. told police he found mixed in alongside “innocent family mementos,” according to the Sun.
The outlet also reported that Thomas Jr., 60, reached out to the FBI, and the agency is allegedly set to begin a stateside investigation of their own as Thomas Sr. returned to the US in May following a series of health scares that culminated in a blood clot that led to an emergency leg amputation.
“I have supported, cared for him and helped him for years — but that stops now,” Thomas Sr. told the Sun after allegedly submitting a sworn statement to Philippines officials. “I won’t speak to my father ever again unless I’m called to give evidence against him.”
Thomas Sr. and Thomas Jr. did not immediately return Page Six’s requests for comment, nor did reps for Meghan and Prince Harry.
If Thomas Jr. — who was reportedly left a “shaking wreck” and “sick to the stomach” after discovering his father’s trove of child porn and felt “betrayed, angry and disgusted” — isn’t planning to speak to Thomas Sr. again, he’ll join sister Meghan in her own refusal to interact with her father.
The duchess has been estranged from Thomas Sr. since May 2018, just days before her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
Thomas Sr. was accused of working with paparazzi to stage photos of himself preparing for the highly publicized nuptials — where he was expected to give Meghan, 45, away during the ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Samantha Markle, the retired TV lighting director’s daughter and Meghan’s sister, later took the blame for the incident.
Thomas Sr. ultimately missed Meghan and Harry’s wedding due to him needing to undergo heart surgery. (Later reports revealed he also skipped the “Suits” actress’ first wedding in 2011, too.)
By December 2018, Thomas Sr. claimed he’d been “frozen out” by his famous daughter.
The next year, Thomas Sr. revealed the emotional five-page letter Meghan had sent him in August 2018 in which she addressed “the pain [he was] causing” — which she said had “broken [her] heart into a million pieces.”
“You’ve told the press that you called me to say you weren’t coming to the wedding — that didn’t happen because you never called,” the letter read, with Meghan said she’d “only ever loved, protected, and defended [him]” and that he’d chosen “to only speak to tabloids.”
Meghan begged her father to “stop creating so much pain” and to “stop exploiting [her] relationship with [her] husband.”
In 2023, Thomas Sr. called Meghan “cruel” for not allowing him to meet his grandchildren — Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.
As of earlier this year, Thomas Sr. has been dating his much-younger nurse, Rio Canedo, who is more than three decades younger than him.
