The Justice Department has indicted Virginia state Sen. L. Louise Lucas, one of Virginia’s most powerful Democrats, as part of a long-running investigation involving a family-run marijuana business.
The indictment, unsealed Thursday, alleges that Lucas and her relatives set up a business to sell marijuana before the substance was legalized for recreational sales in the commonwealth. Lucas, who co-owns a marijuana business, has turned herself in to authorities, while multiple members of her family were arrested Thursday morning.
