There’s a rhythm to a fashion show. Celebs stream in, models march, the designer bows. Fin.
The first two parts get all the love. But the bow packs so much data. It can wink to how a designer feels about their work, or how camera shy they truly are. And, curiously, who in the front row they identify to give a hug, be it Jean Paul Gaultier for designer Duran Lantick, or Chitose Abe’s trot with open arms to Pharrell.
Here are some of the big farewells from the Paris fashion shows, captured from the seats. Pay close attention to the roar of the claps (or, the swell that never really comes), the pace of the walks, the expression on the designers’ faces as they greet their public.
