  • The fall fashion status symbols are loud and luxurious.
  • Think oversize tote bags and sunglasses that look like ski goggles.
  • If that’s not your thing, there are also more subtle options — like $640 Khaite jeans.

Leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and fashion is expensive. That’s the 2026 fall season in a nutshell.

When it comes to the latter, you might notice a few trends from fashionable folks as we make our way through autumn. Loud, luxurious pieces are at the forefront again.

Sunglasses are statement-makers, bags are bigger, and shoes are distinctive.

These are the fashion status symbols men and women are loving right now.

This fall, you’ll see everyone carrying extra-oversized designer bags.

Apologies to anyone who purchased a Coach Brooklyn bag or a Chloé Paddington purse in recent years. In 2026, we’re going bigger.

Fashion houses like Bottega Veneta showcased massive totes on fall runways, and search interest in “oversize bags” is up more than 5,000% compared with this time last year, according to Google Trends.

Some popular options include Burberry’s $1,395 large Margate bag, The Row’s $3,900 Jean Shoulder Bag, and Bottega Veneta’s $5,100 Jodie bag.

The most coveted jeans cost between $590 and $820 per pair.

Khaite jeans have been around for a while — 10 years to be exact.

If you’ve scrolled through TikTok in the past month, though, chances are that you’ve heard people rave about Walmart’s $30 jeans that some say are a dupe for the brand’s luxury pairs.

Naturally, that’s brought the New York City brand that’s loved by celebrities and models — including Elsa Hosk, Hailey Bieber, and Dakota Johnson — back into the spotlight. Khaite jeans are no longer a quiet-luxury staple. Owning the real thing is the ultimate display of wealth and style.

The brand’s jeans cost between $590 and $820 per pair.

The fragrance for fall goes to Dries Van Noten.

Perfumers told Business Insider that the best scents to wear this fall are woody, gourmand, nutty, and floral.

The $350 Velvet Violet perfume from Dries Van Noten is all of those things. It includes notes of violet leaf, grilled tonka bean, and vetiver, among others.

The unisex fragrance received rave reviews on TikTok when it was released in July, with many fans saying they’d be wearing the scent throughout the fall.

New fans are also discovering the perfume. Google search interest for the scent peaked in late July, but it began rising again at the end of September.

Nothing says luxury like a monogram.

The classic embroidery, which typically features a name or initials in script, has been a staple of menswear for generations. Once a practical feature on clothes, monograms now serve as subtle status symbols.

The detail is having a moment this fall, thanks to Chanel. Instead of initials, people are wearing tops featuring the fashion house’s monogram prominently on the bodice.

Nicole Kidman, for example, wore a striped, collared blouse with Chanel embroidered in red at the 2026 US Open in September. Variants of the top have also been worn by Jessie Buckley and Jacob Elordi this year.

One version, from the Métiers d’art 2026 collection, retails for $3,950.

Move over, classic ballet flats. It’s all about tabi styles this year.

Flats have remained the supreme fall shoe for a few years now, and that’s not changing in 2026. The trending style, however, is.

Rather than wearing the classic ballet silhouette, people are opting for tabi styles in both flats and sneakers.

The most famous split-toe shoes, of course, come from Maison Margiela, where its men’s and women’s flats cost between $1,050 and $1,750 per pair.

As photos have emerged from fall fashion weeks around the globe, one accessory has made a consistent appearance: chunky sunglasses resembling ski goggles.

The oversize silhouette has also been named one of the trending styles for fall across TikTok, where people have showcased their designer dupes from brands like Jimmy Fairly.

The real things, though, are the Phoebe Philo Bombé sunglasses. The oversize shades cost $750 and are sold in four shades of brown.
