A new attack ad hit the airwaves on Tuesday, featuring Gov. Laura Kelly (D-KS), exposing Iowa Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn for not fully living in the state where he is running.
“Kansas Governor Laura Kelly here,” said Kelly. “It’s my great honor to be the governor of the greatest state in the country. So imagine my surprise when I learned that one of my constituents is running for governor. Not here in his home state of Kansas, but two states over in Iowa.”
“Now generally, I support Kansans,” she continued. “I was even proud to see Zach Lahn voted here in ’18, ’20, and ’22. I hope he voted for me in the Kansas governor’s race. But in the Iowa governor’s race, I’m supporting the Iowan. Zach, there are no hard feelings, but it is time to come back to Kansas. As they say, there’s no place like home.”
Lahn, a pro-Trump businessman, insists that he is an Iowan, and that while he spent much of his life in Kansas, he has lived in Iowa since 2023.
But discrepancies keep popping up in his story. Last month, reports indicated that Lahn’s account on the fitness app Strava recorded several bike rides in Kansas between March and May of last year.
Lahn is facing off against Democratic state auditor Rob Sand, who has led the majority of polls conducted in the race.
