Trump bid to ‘censor’ survivors backfires as thousands flock to see Epstein ties: analysis

A mobile trove of files related to Jeffrey Epstein has seen thousands of Americans line up to get a first-hand look over the past few weeks, a fierce rebuke of what Miles Taylor, former senior Homeland Security official, argued was President Donald Trump’s efforts to “censor” Epstein survivors.

“Trump tried very hard to censor the victims. What a fool. By doing that, he put them in the spotlight. So we proudly handed them a bullhorn,” Taylor wrote in an analysis published Friday on his Substack.

Trump led an aggressive campaign last year to block the release of Epstein-related files, a campaign that included unprecedented meetings in the Situation Room. And last month, three Epstein survivors were ejected from Trump’s midterm convention after an independent journalist who was accompanying them asked a GOP congressional candidate about Epstein.

Trump ultimately did sign off on the Epstein Files Transparency Act — the bill that forced the Justice Department (DOJ) to release millions of Epstein-related files — despite the White House campaign to convince select GOP lawmakers to revoke their support for the legislation.

Since early September, Taylor has been touring the country in what he’s dubbed the “Trump-Epstein Bookmobile,” a “taco truck-turned-museum” where visitors can read Epstein-related files released by the DOJ. The vehicle made a stop in Dallas just outside Trump’s midterm convention, with interest only growing in the weeks since.

“Back on the Fourth of July, videos of his speech on the National Mall showed rows of empty seats, and insiders said he was livid when he saw the gaps in an aerial photo,” Taylor wrote. “The President of the United States can’t fill the seats his own party hands him, while ordinary Americans are lining up in parking lots to read about his friendship with a convicted sex offender.”

Taylor also expressed surprise that the mobile library hadn’t drawn the ire of Trump’s supporters while traveling across the country.

“Our driver has been steering the truck down interstates across the Midwest, where we worried angry MAGA folks might be rude. Instead, people are honking and waving,” Taylor wrote.

“They snap pictures and yell enthusiastic (and mostly unprintable) cheers about delivering justice to the criminals and those who covered it up. In Parma, a woman walked up and shook the hand of every person on our crew and thanked them. In all those miles, we’ve yet to see a middle finger.”

Trump is mentioned more than 3,000 times in the trove of Epstein-related files released by the DOJ, with the files’ release being among the most persistent liabilities of Trump’s second term. However, the scandal has largely been overshadowed by the president’s deeply unpopular war against Iran, which a majority of Americans believe was launched in part to “distract from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal,” according to a survey from Data for Progress.
