Three employees were critically injured in a shooting at a United Rentals facility in Northern Virginia on Wednesday morning, and police said they were searching for another worker in connection with the incident.
The shooting occurred around 7 a.m. at the United Rentals site on Wellington Road in Manassas, according to Manassas Police Chief Doug Keen.
Police said that there had been an altercation before the shooting and that they were looking for a suspect, Marvin Grant, who they said also works at the equipment rental company. He has a North Carolina address, according to police, and is believed to have fled the area in a gray Toyota.
Manassas detectives, who are working with state and federal law enforcement, are trying to determine whether Grant has a local address, Keen said at a news briefing.
Police are working to access the building’s camera system to help find out “what actually occurred,” Keen said.
All three victims are adult males, he added, and were taken to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not been released by the department.
A shelter-in-place order was temporarily issued for the surrounding community, a Manassas police spokesperson said in a statement.
Jennie Dean Elementary School, which is less than a mile from the United Rentals location, will remain on “secure the building status” for the rest of the day, police said, which means that outside activities are canceled and doors and windows are secured, but students can move around within the school.
