The White House responded Tuesday after its newly launched, AI-powered chatbot contradicted several of President Donald Trump’s claims — including his false assertion about the 2020 election.
CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale said he asked the White House for comment after America.gov began serving up answers that weren’t sticking to the MAGA administration’s script.
“America.gov will continue to be updated to provide more features, resources, and the most accurate information from the federal government,” an unnamed White House official told Dale.
Dale said Tuesday the White House official also told him “the President and Administration have been clear about issues surrounding the 2020 election.”
The CNN correspondent couldn’t resist pointing out the apparent disconnect.
“And about some other subjects I guess the chatbot disagrees with them on,” he wrote.
The response came hours after the Trump administration unveiled the new government website, and users quickly discovered its information didn’t always match the president’s claims.
Aside from debunking Trump’s claims about the 2020 election, the chatbot also correctly noted that Trump has been criminally indicted and is barred by the 22nd Amendment from being elected a third time, according to media reports.
