CNN, MS NOW and Politico have asked a federal court to block President Donald Trump’s media ban beyond the current 14-day order while legal proceedings play out.
The outlets called for the “same access” to the White House and president they had before Trump announced the ban on Sept. 18, accusing them of “FAKE NEWS.”
Reporters from the outlets were first blocked from White House grounds on Sept. 19, which the organizations fought in court.
On Sept. 24, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly ordered their access restored for 14 days. But that order expires Oct. 8, and the television pool — where five networks share the role of covering the president — has been in turmoil.
In Monday’s filing, the outlets said the White House has been “unpredictably and inconsistently” implementing the ban, including blocking CNN from fulfilling pool duties, and asked the court for a preliminary injunction to preserve their access until the case is resolved.
The White House and Politico did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday. CNN and MS NOW referred to their reports on the filing.
