The Department of Homeland Security put out a highly charged social media post in response to reports of a migrant caravan approaching the U.S. The post said “our time has come,” accompanied by video of a dramatic sports roll of Brian Dawkins of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The post was swiftly met with a takedown request from the NFL.
It also got met with fury by commenters on social media, including from many Eagles fans ahead of the team’s Monday night matchup against the Chicago Bears.
“You’re f—— scumbags,” wrote activist John Pavlovitz.
“As an @Eagles fan, I know the Eagles would not OK this,” wrote podcaster Ed Krassenstein. “How about the @NFL? Are you OK with the Trump administration using these videos of Brian Dawkins to promote ICE?”
“The Philadelphia Eagles should condemn this s— ASAP,” wrote political influencer Harry Sisson.
“I’m very curious what the @Eagles say about this, if anything,” wrote Philadelphia Inquirer court reporter Abraham Gutman.
