“Primetime” opened with a more-than-solid $19.2 million over the weekend, but perhaps as intriguing as the box office is who filled the seats. It’s a film steeped in early 2000s iconography and grainy camcorder images, yet the demo for Robert Pattinson’s abstract biopic landed firmly in Gen Z, according to Indiewire’s box office report.
That was also clear in Times Square last week as moviegoers were treated to a surprising sighting of the man himself. For a profile of Chris Hansen, I tagged along with the “To Catch a Predator” star as he paid for a ticket to see a movie ostensibly about his life. He had nothing to do with making of the film, but clearly delighted in talking with moviegoers. After the film, some told Hansen they’d seen him in YouTube clips — the original “Predator” was canceled in 2007 — and also on his TruBlu network.
Others just wanted a selfie or to ask Hansen for his quick review. (Short answer: Not impressed.)
