Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) made an eye-catching suggestion about what President Donald Trump could do while hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping, during an interview on Fox Business with Larry Kudlow.
“I won’t be a bit surprised if President Trump decides at one point to say, ‘You know, President Xi, let’s go visit Panda Express and see what you think of their broccoli beef.’ I’d love to see that happen,” said Lee. “That’s the kind of thing President Trump likes to do.”
Lee’s comment earned instant mockery from commenters on social media — though many couldn’t rule out the very real possibility Trump would do this unironically.
“It’s already pretty obvious what Xi thinks of the Orange Chicken here,” wrote conservative attorney George Conway.
“I will not miss the lowbrow,” wrote actress Heather Thomas.
“I won’t be a bit surprised either,” wrote Hemant Mehta of Friendly Atheist. “Why not take Giorgia Meloni to Olive Garden, too, if we’re doing a cringe tour of America.”
“Trump is more likely to say, ‘Go take Taiwan, that’s OK with me,’” wrote policy analyst Norm Ornstein.
