Welcome to Late Night Roundup, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.
He’s Never Sounded Better
President Trump spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of his new helipad at the White House on Monday — “or at least he tried to,” Seth Meyers said on Tuesday’s “Late Night.”
The major television networks had suspended their pooled coverage of Trump because of his refusal to allow CNN to serve as a pool representative. The White House provided its own YouTube stream of the event, but the audio was garbled and the president’s remarks were almost entirely inaudible.
“Seriously though, I think we may have accidentally cracked the code on how to cover Trump,” Meyers said. “We don’t need to hear what he’s saying. He’s either bragging or lying, let’s just lose the sound.”
“Basically use the media as a baby monitor. We can see where he is and whether he’s awake, without hearing all the crying, you know? Then if something goes down, we’ll pause the movie and go check on him.” — SETH MEYERS
“Yeah, apparently he forgot the press pool is also who brings the microphones. If you’re going to ban news organizations from the White House, you really need to learn how to project.” — SETH MEYERS
“You know, one year ago tomorrow we came back from when they bullied us off the air. That was a year ago; never did I imagine that, 12 months later, Trump would do the same thing to himself.” — JIMMY KIMMEL
“There is nothing this man loves more than being on television. And right now, thanks to his own dumb actions the only camera at the White House is the Ring camera Melania had mounted on her bedroom door to keep him out of it.” — JIMMY KIMMEL
“If only they’d done this nine years ago, we might not be in this situation.” — JIMMY KIMMEL
The Punchiest Punchlines (Rebranding Edition)
“President Trump was set this morning to address the United Nations General Assembly. Not sure what he’s going to say but I’m guessing, ‘You’re now America, you’re now America, you’re now America.’” — SETH MEYERS
“His legacy will be renaming things that did not need to be renamed.” — JIMMY KIMMEL
“Here I was scared of artificial intelligence but now I’d be honored to be murdered by ‘super intelligence.’ Problem solved!” — DESI LYDIC
“So ‘A.I.’ is now ‘S.I.’ and he’s very much looking forward to their swimsuit issue.” — JIMMY KIMMEL, referring to Sports Illustrated magazine’s annual tradition.
“This is so embarrassing for America. We’re all used to Trump’s weird obsession with rebranding things, but this is in the front of the world. It’s the geopolitical version of your dad walking around in his underwear when your friends are over.” — DESI LYDIC
The Bits Worth Watching
Brandon Flowers of the Killers answered Jimmy Fallon’s interview questions in song on Tuesday’s “Tonight Show.”
What We’re Excited About on Wednesday Night
