President Donald Trump’s confusion when appearing with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday drew a comparison to his wandering about during his much-derided on-field meandering at the World Cup final.
On MS NOW, “ Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski shared a brief clip of the president speaking to the press, with the Democratic mayor having to intercede to help the president get through it, unsure if he was done, and then Trump refusing to step aside.
When the clip ended, both hosts were laughing at Trump’s confusion, with Brzezinski pointing out, “Um, he was supposed to exit stage left, I thought.”
“I thought, Mika, you know, what that looked like, Mika,” Scarborough interjected, “That reminded me so much of the World Cup when they were trying to give Spain their trophies, and they got the trophies, and they’re about to lift the World Cup over their head, and he wouldn’t leave the stage. Because you have the iconic shot in every single World Cup that since the very beginning, where they lifted the trophy they had, and he would not leave the stage. And he looked awkward and out of place and —.”
“Well, he has audio there,” Brzezinski interrupted. “That might have been the issue.”
