Megyn Kelly blasted New York Times writer Nikole Hannah-Jones for sending her daughter as a “sacrifice” to a city school known for fighting and dismal test scores, saying “she doesn’t give a s–t even about her own kid.”
The conservative podcaster tore apart Hannah-Jones’ recent article, titled “In Fighting for Every Black Child, Did I Betray My Own?,” which detailed her decision to send her daughter Najya to PS 307, a Brooklyn public school that is mostly black and low-income.
“It’s a piss-poor school getting piss-poor results. She couldn’t have cared less. The kid’s going in there because Nikole Hannah-Jones needs to feel better about herself. She doesn’t give a s–t even about her own kid,” Kelly said during an episode of her podcast Monday.
In 2016, Hannah-Jones, author of the controversial “1619 Project,” revealed she would be sending her daughter to an extremely lagging school in an attempt to change systemic racism in the public schooling system — despite its horrible reputation and the fact she could afford to enroll her elsewhere.
Hannah-Jones — who purchased a $1.5 million Bed-Stuy brownstone with her husband in 2018 — wrote in a lengthy follow-up this week that she now found herself with a 16-year-old daughter who was struggling to keep up in high school and blamed her mom for putting “other kids” before her.
“I’m sure she was worried she was about to get outed as a fraud. That’s, I guarantee you, why she wrote this,” Kelly said during her podcast. “This isn’t her actually coming to Jesus. This is her daughter browbeating her into submission and her trying to turn it into a triumphant moment for herself.
“She’s been dining out on that 2016 article,” she said, adding that Hannah-Jones had won several writing awards and even been called “the Beyoncé of educational journalism” by one online outlet. “All the plaudits she got and awards she got. ‘Beyoncé?’ Please!”
At one point in the article, Hannah-Jones said she visited the school and witnessed fighting and children in the cafeteria without lunch, and realized that her daughter’s teacher was failing to properly grade Najya – making her think she was acing her classes when she was actually flunking.
Bullying, assaults on teachers and academic challenges are so severe at PS 307 that it’s been dubbed “Little Riker’s Island,” after the city’s notoriously dangerous jail that is being shut down, according to a petition circulated by school parents.
On her podcast, Kelly read aloud a section of the article in which Hannah-Jones wrote that she and her husband eventually asked themselves, “Should we consider leaving the school?”
“Yes, you f–ker, leave the school!” Kelly exclaimed. “Your kid cannot do math and the teacher’s not even looking at her tests and they’re fighting and there’s no food at lunch, f–king get her out of there, you idiot! This is so infuriating.”
Kelly also mocked Hannah-Jones for writing that she supplemented her daughter’s education with private tutoring – something that other low-income students at her school would not be able to afford.
“So like she’s really committed to giving the kid the experience that the black kids have, going to the poor, disadvantaged school, except if she happens to stumble and doesn’t learn like the other black kids, in which case she’ll use her money and privilege to get her the tutoring that no other black kid can get,” Kelly said.
“Nikole, we’ve lost the thread. We’ve lost the thread of our virtue signaling,” she added. “This is the unfair advantage you’re trying to avoid.”
