Charles Spencer doesn’t buy into conspiracy theories about his late sister Princess Diana’s death.
“I’ve never believed in the conspiracy theory,” the 9th Earl Spencer said in a People cover story interview, published Monday, of his sibling’s August 1997 passing at 36 in a Paris car crash.
The tragedy spawned a slew of wild rumors, ranging from the royal family or British intelligence conspiring to kill the princess to her faking her own death.
Her youngest son, Prince Harry, even believed the latter for a time, he wrote in his 2023 “Spare” memoir.
Spencer noted on Monday, “If somebody was conspiring to kill somebody very high profile like that, I don’t think that would be the manner that it would happen in.
“First of all, nobody planned for Diana to go through that tunnel that night,” the 62-year-old continued. “The fact that it ended up tragically being a car crash, I think, is purely a coincidence.”
He insisted that if he “thought otherwise,” he “would say so” — but he “just [doesn’t] see it.”
Spencer is currently promoting his forthcoming memoir, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” which comes out Tuesday.
Excerpts of the book were published last week, with Spencer writing a scathing portrayal of King Charles’ alleged reaction to ex-wife Diana’s passing.
He claimed the monarch, 77, sounded “giddily elated” at the time and vowed his former spouse would be forgotten “soon enough” — which Charles denied in a statement.
“His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and color memory in ways others do not recognize, even many years after such a loss,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told Page Six on Wednesday.
Spencer doubled down to People, saying, “I’ve heard that in ‘The Crown’ for instance, [Charles] is sort of knocked sideways by the news of Diana’s death, and that’s just not true.”
He claimed to not be sharing what he has out of “viciousness.”
“I’m not resentful or bitter or any of those things,” Spencer explained. “It’s just a straightforward fact that that was the case, and I think that’s important for people to know.”
As for where he stands with the king, Spencer told the outlet he has “really nothing to do with him at all now.”
He noted, “I see him as an ex-brother-in-law, and I’m sure anyone who has had divorce in the family will understand that people who were closer in your life when the parties were married are less close. … I mean, I’ve seen him at family weddings or whatever.”
Spencer didn’t want to sound “very dismissive” but said, “He’s just not part of my life and I’m not part of his . . . At the end of the day, family is family, and families have all sorts of energies, tensions, happinesses, and problems. It’s just normal.
