Why America can’t get rid of its dead malls

M. Nolan Gray is the chief urban planner at the Metropolitan Abundance Project. He writes the Substack “Arbitrary Lines,” from which this article was adapted.

Such legislators are part of what’s known as the YIMBY movement, short for “yes in my backyard,” whose mission is to build more housing. In this case, that means turning today’s dead malls into tomorrow’s mixed-use neighborhoods.
